Our story

Born of salt, tide and patience.

Maresia — the Portuguese word for the scent of the sea — is the table of Chef Mariana Tavares, raised among the fishing boats of Setúbal. Each morning we choose what the Atlantic offers, never the other way around. Nothing travels far; everything tastes of where it came from.

Portrait of Chef Mariana Tavares

The chef

Mariana Tavares

After a decade across kitchens in San Sebastián and the Algarve, Mariana came home to Lisbon to cook the food she grew up with — simpler, sharper, closer to the source. Her cooking earned Maresia its first star in 2021, but she'll tell you the real prize is the fisherman who saves her the best box.
